Fatal Collision on SR-85 Near Saratoga Avenue Claims One Life

A tragic accident occurred on northbound State Route 85 at Saratoga Avenue on August 27, 2024, resulting in one fatality. The incident, which took place around 3:40 PM, involved a white Tesla Model Y and a white Toyota Tacoma. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision was caused by a white van traveling in the wrong direction at high speed.

Emergency services, including San Jose Fire Department and CHP units, responded promptly to the scene. Despite their efforts, the driver of the Toyota Tacoma, a 39-year-old male, succumbed to severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at 4:14 PM. The Tesla also sustained major front-end damage. All northbound lanes of SR-85 were temporarily closed, causing significant traffic disruptions as vehicles were diverted to SR-87.

Our hearts go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time. Authorities have since reopened the lanes, but motorists are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant while driving. The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
