Fatal Crash on I-580 in Oakland Causes Major Traffic Delays

A tragic accident occurred late Thursday night on Interstate 580 West near the 106th Avenue on-ramp in Oakland, resulting in a fatality and significant traffic disruptions. The incident was reported at approximately 11:28 PM on August 29, 2024, leading to the closure of multiple lanes and the issuance of a SigAlert.

Emergency responders, including the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and fire services, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Despite their swift arrival, one individual was pronounced dead, and the coroner was notified shortly after midnight. The exact circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation, but lanes #2 through #4 were blocked, causing substantial delays for westbound traffic.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes. The Department of Transportation has been notified, and cleanup efforts are expected to take several hours.
