A tragic incident occurred late Sunday night on northbound I-880 at Hegenberger Road in Oakland, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The incident took place at approximately 10:55 PM on September 1, 2024. Emergency responders, including fire personnel and the coroner, were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Initial reports indicate that no vehicles were involved in the fatality. A party had stopped to check on an individual found in the roadway. The northbound lanes were temporarily closed, causing significant traffic delays, but lanes #3 and #4 were reopened by 11:42 PM. Authorities are currently reviewing video footage to gather more information about the circumstances leading to the incident.
