Hit-and-Run Incident Leaves Injuries in San Mateo

Anderson Franco Law

A hit-and-run incident involving two vehicles resulted in injuries on Wednesday evening in San Mateo. The collision occurred around 6:00 PM near the Ocean on-ramp to northbound Interstate 280. A black Toyota RAV4 and a black Chevrolet sedan were involved in the accident, which escalated from a verbal altercation between the drivers prior to the collision.

The Chevrolet was reportedly driving erratically, cutting off other vehicles before the crash. Following the incident, the Toyota was left at a mechanic shop on South Claremont Street. The involved parties were initially unaware of their obligation to report the accident, which delayed the response.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and the injured were taken to San Mateo Medical Center for treatment. Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Drivers are reminded to report any accidents involving injuries to ensure timely assistance and investigation. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person was careless, it is called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money to make up for what happened. This is called a personal injury claim. To win a negligence case, the injured person must show that the other person did not act carefully and that this lack of care caused the injury. For example, if someone was driving and not paying attention, and this caused an accident, they might be found negligent.

Victims of negligence can often file a claim with the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. This is because most people have insurance to cover accidents like car crashes. The insurance company might pay for things like medical bills or other costs related to the injury. However, sometimes insurance companies do not want to pay, or they offer less money than what is needed. In these cases, the injured person might need to get a lawyer to help them get a fair amount.

It is important for victims to know their rights and to act quickly. There are usually time limits on how long someone has to file a claim after an accident. This is called a statute of limitations. If a claim is not filed in time, the victim might not be able to get any money at all. So, it is a good idea for anyone who is hurt because of someone else’s carelessness to talk to a lawyer as soon as possible. This way, they can make sure they do everything they need to do to protect their rights.
