Multi-Vehicle Collision on SR-4 in Antioch Causes Major Traffic Delays

Anderson Franco Law

A significant traffic collision involving a jack-knifed big rig and two other vehicles occurred on eastbound State Route 4 at San Marco Boulevard in Antioch on December 14, 2024, at approximately 3:34 PM. The accident resulted in the blockage of multiple lanes, causing substantial traffic delays in the area. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and assist those involved.

The collision involved a gray SUV, a white Lexus sedan, and a large semi-truck, which jack-knifed and blocked lanes 1 through 3. The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert, diverting traffic off San Marco Boulevard to alleviate congestion. Fortunately, all lanes were reopened by 5:00 PM, but not before the incident caused significant disruption to the evening commute.

While the full extent of injuries remains unclear, initial reports indicate that emergency medical services were on-site to provide necessary care. The collision also resulted in damage to approximately 30 feet of fencing. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant while traveling through the area, as residual delays may persist. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person was careless, it’s called negligence. In a situation where a person gets hurt, the law says that the person who caused the harm might have to help the injured person. This is because everyone has a duty to be careful and not cause harm to others. If someone does not act carefully and someone else gets hurt, the injured person might have the right to ask for help or money to make up for what happened.

For example, if a driver is not paying attention and causes a car accident, the people who got hurt in the accident might be able to say that the driver was negligent. They could ask the driver to pay for things like medical bills or other costs that happened because of the accident. The law looks at whether the driver was being as careful as they should have been. If not, the driver might be responsible for the injuries.

Insurance can also play a big role in these situations. Many people have insurance that can help pay for injuries or damages. If someone is hurt in an accident, they might be able to make a claim with the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. This means the insurance company might pay for some or all of the costs related to the injury. It’s important for people to know what their insurance covers and how to make a claim if they need to.

In summary, when someone is hurt because another person was not careful, the law can help the injured person get what they need to recover. This might include money for medical bills or other expenses. Insurance can also help cover these costs, so it’s important to understand how insurance claims work.
