Traffic Collision on I-280 in San Jose Causes Injuries and Delays

Anderson Franco Law

A traffic collision involving two vehicles occurred on Interstate 280 southbound near the Winchester Boulevard offramp in San Jose on the evening of May 3, 2025. The incident was reported at approximately 5:08 PM, leading to significant traffic disruptions as emergency services responded to the scene.

The collision involved a blue sedan with deployed airbags and a black Honda CRV. Emergency responders, including the San Jose Fire Department, were quick to arrive, temporarily halting traffic to ensure the safety of those involved. One individual sustained a right rear ankle injury and was transported to Valley Medical Center for further treatment. Our thoughts are with the injured, and we hope for a swift recovery.

By 5:48 PM, all lanes were reopened after the vehicles were moved to the right-hand side of the road, alleviating the traffic congestion. Motorists are advised to remain cautious and adhere to traffic advisories when traveling through the area.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person was careless, it is called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money from the person who caused the accident. To prove negligence, the injured person must show that the other person had a duty to be careful, did not act carefully, and that this lack of care caused the injury. For example, drivers have a duty to follow traffic rules and drive safely. If they don’t, and someone gets hurt, the driver might be responsible.

Victims of accidents can also make insurance claims. If the person who caused the accident has insurance, the injured person can ask the insurance company to pay for things like medical bills and other costs related to the accident. It’s important for victims to report the accident to their own insurance company too, even if they were not at fault. This helps make sure they get the help they need quickly.

Sometimes, insurance companies might not want to pay the full amount that the victim needs. In these cases, the victim might need to talk to a lawyer to help them get what they deserve. Lawyers can help explain the victim’s rights and make sure the insurance company treats them fairly. It’s important for victims to keep records of everything related to the accident, like medical visits and any costs they have because of the accident. This information can be very helpful if there are any problems with the insurance claim.
