Traffic Collision on I-880 in Hayward Causes Lane Blockage and Injuries

A traffic collision involving two vehicles occurred on northbound I-880 just south of the Winton Avenue offramp in Hayward at approximately 11:48 AM on August 30, 2024. The incident resulted in a male driver sustaining a visible head injury, though he was reported to be up and walking. Emergency services, including Hayward Fire Department and medical personnel, were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The collision initially blocked lanes 3 and 4, causing significant traffic disruption. However, by 12:20 PM, all lanes were reopened, and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) confirmed that the Changeable Message Signs (CMS) were turned off. Tow services were also requested to remove a silver Chevrolet involved in the accident.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving through the area and to remain vigilant for any residual delays. Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for his swift recovery.
