Two-Vehicle Collision Causes Major Delays at San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge

Anderson Franco Law

A serious traffic collision involving two vehicles occurred early Friday morning at the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza, causing significant disruptions for commuters. The incident was reported at approximately 4:45 AM on December 13, 2024, on the westbound I-80, just west of the toll plaza. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The collision involved a black SUV and a burgundy Honda CR-V, both of which sustained major damage. Initial reports indicated that airbags were deployed in both vehicles, and two individuals were trapped inside one of the vehicles. Fortunately, they were conscious and breathing, although one driver was later reported to be experiencing shallow breathing. Emergency responders worked swiftly to extricate the individuals and provide necessary medical attention.

The accident blocked multiple lanes, leading to significant traffic congestion during the morning rush hour. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and exercise caution while traveling in the area. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and authorities are urging drivers to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further incidents. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person wasn’t careful, it’s called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money from the person who caused the accident. To prove negligence, the injured person needs to show that the other person had a duty to be careful, didn’t do their duty, and that this caused the injury. For example, drivers have a duty to follow traffic rules and drive safely. If they don’t, and someone gets hurt, the driver might be responsible.

Victims of accidents can often make claims with insurance companies to help cover costs. If the person who caused the accident has insurance, the victim can file a claim with that insurance company. This claim can help pay for things like medical bills and other expenses related to the accident. It’s important for victims to report the accident to the insurance company as soon as possible and provide all the necessary information.

Sometimes, the insurance company might not offer enough money to cover all the costs. In these cases, the victim might need to talk to a lawyer to see if they should go to court to get more help. A lawyer can help explain the victim’s rights and what steps to take next. It’s important for victims to keep records of everything related to the accident, like medical visits and any communication with the insurance company, to support their case.
